* Special thanks to Stan Laferrière – grand nephew of Roger Du Peuty – for all photos and information presented herein. While records suggest the 1938 and 1939 Tour de France did not feature individual riders it is known this bicycle was ridden by Du Peuty in the 1939 Tour de France as a solo entrant. Persons able to elaborate on this inconsistency are encouraged to leave a comment with additional information.

I’m currently rebuilding a bike from a touring frame made by Bernard Carré for
Lejeune somewhere between 1975 and 1980. I bought the frame in Paris
last summer and it seems to have a complicated history: after being used
quite a while, the owner had it modified (cable-guides were brazed onto
the top tube) and then kept it in some place for years, where
it got (not too badly) rusted. Somehow it landed in Alain Michel’s workshop
(another Parisian framemaker?), where it was bought (with a dozen of
unbuilt steel frames from the 80s) by a vintage bicycle shop. That’s when I found it.
Do you have any further information about Bernard Carré? A number
of Lejeune track bicycles seem to be Carré’s work too.
Best,
Nicolas.
